The series is based on a 2006 novel called Princess of Orchid Hills depicting the love story between Yuan Qingsuo, Gao Changkong and Yuwen Yong and the ongoing war between their kingdoms.
It is extremely similar to Lan Ling Wang, a TV series that aired in 2013 though it bears no relation to it other than a reboot of the three main characters that are now portrayed by a novice cast. The historical narrative also gets a re-haul since it becomes infused with elements of fantasy in a plot revolving largely around the quest to find the Qingluan Mirror and Lishang Sword.
On another note, it is unfortunate that actress Wang Jie Xi who plays Gao Changkong's fiancee has passed away last Aug. 2016 due to leukemia. She was only 26.
Release Date: Sept. 29, 2016 on Mango TV.

Princess of Lanling King 兰陵王妃, which stars Kristy Zhang Han Yun (New Xiao Shi Yi Lang), Peng Guan Ying and Andy Chen Yi has been waiting for a release date for years. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there still isn't an official date despite rumors that it will air in 2016.
What it lacks in air time it makes up for by teasing viewers with an overflow of promotional materials, no doubt to keep the interest alive and it's working. In fact, I have to say that the calibre of costumes and sceneries are so breathtaking that I am genuinely curious to see it in the flesh.
